Job Announcement, January 2019: Programmer
Haskins Laboratories, 300 George Street, Suite 900, New Haven CT 06511
Project Director: Dr. Richard Aslin
Qualified individuals are invited to apply for a part-time (minimum 10 hours/week) Programmer position at Haskins Laboratories. The successful candidate will support the lab of Professor Richard Aslin which investigates the cognitive and neural bases of language learning and development using behavioral and neuroimaging techniques in typically developing infants, children and adults.
The primary project (supported by NIH grant HD-037082, joint with Professor Elissa Newport at Georgetown) involves real-time data collection using iPad devices. The current software platform consists of a javascript package for experiment building called JsPsych that runs on most browsers (e.g., Chrome). A new set of experiments must be
programmed to expand on this platform to meet the needs of specific designs suitable for children, including a “game like” feel with entertaining graphics and rewards to maximize motivation (and amount of data from each child).
The successful candidate will work with Professor Aslin, his postdoctoral fellows, and other staff members to design and implement these data collection programs and to extract data for subsequent off-line analysis using standard statistical packages.
Requirements include:
  • Experience with Java (or other languages) for real-time data acquisition
  • Experience with statistical analysis (e.g., SPSS, R, Matlab)
Additional useful skills include:
  • Experience with neuroimaging techniques (EEG, fMRI, or fNIRS)
  • Experience with experimental presentation software packages (e.g., E PRIME, Presentation, PsychoPy)
  • Experience with data management software (e.g., FileMakerPro, REDCap, Qualtrics)
Interested applicants should contact Tammy Ursini, Office Manager
( with a cover letter, resume, copy of (unofficial) transcripts, and the names of three potential references.  Please note “Aslin Programmer”, in the subject line of your email. The position is available immediately and will remain open until filled.  Compensation is commensurate with skills and experience.
